Populus balsamifera ssp. trichocarpa {++} (=Populus trichocarpa). BLACK COTTONWOOD. Tree. Deciduous. Bl "Feb-Apr". Along Soda Springs Ck, upstream from Madrone Soda Springs. Some specimens at Madrone Soda Springs seem to be hybrids between this & Fremont cottonwood. An unidentified Populus is planted at the Willson Ranch and at a nearby spring. It may be black cottonwood, but is possibly an introduced sp.
Populus fremontii. {++} FREMONT COTTONWOOD. Tree. Deciduous. Bl "Mar-Apr". Along watercourses. Uncommon, mostly on E side of park. Soda Springs Cyn below Madrone Soda Springs, Coyote Ck (sapling at China Hole, one mile or more downstream from confluence of Soda Springs Cyn, near mouth Big Cyn. west of Coit Camp), E Fk Coyote Ck (sapling between mouths of Water Gulch & Little Long Cyn), N Fk Pacheco Ck (Pacheco Falls, just below confluence with Mississippi Ck), Red Ck, S Fk Orestimba Ck E of Robinson Mtn & N to park boundary.
*Salix babylonica. {+} WEEPING WILLOW. Tree. Deciduous. Planted at Willow Tree Spring on Pine Ridge.
Salix exigua {+} (=Salix hindsiana). SANDBAR WILLOW. VALLEY WILLOW. Shrub or small tree. Deciduous. Bl "Mar-May". Watercourses. Coyote Ck and E Fk Coyote Ck; probably this sp below dam of Kelly Lake.
Salix laevigata. {+} RED WILLOW. SMOOTH WILLOW. Tree. Deciduous. Bl "Mar-May". Along streams and some reservoirs. Soda Springs Cyn, Little Fk Coyote Ck, Middle Fk Coyote Ck, Grizzly Ck, Canteen Spring, Mississippi Lake, Red Ck.
*? Salix sp. {++} WILLOW. Tree. Deciduous. Unidentified sp along shore of Mississippi Lake, W side of dam (one specimen).
