Manzanita Point
The name Manzanita Point in recent years has referred to the end of Pine Ridge where
the group campground is located. Earlier, it was applied to the area to the east of the camp area,
particularly noteworthy for its giant manzanitas near, the junction of China Hole and Cougar trails.
A recent park map restored that terminology; in my view, this could cause confusion because trail signs refer to the camp area. It would be better to refer to the original Manzanita Point as
"Old Manzanita Point" to distinguish it from the camp.
Bass Pond at its most attractive: full and in the spring.
Much of the year it is little more than a homely turbid mud puddle.
