Long-eared Owls are uncommon, or at least seldom
seen or heard, at Coe State Park.  They are similar to
Great Horned Owls, but are about 2/3rds as tall.   Long-ears have
some vertical stripes across the horizontal barring on the breast
common to both species.  Both have the feather tuffs on the head
which resemble horns or ears.

Great Horned Owls are frequently heard on quiet nights, and sometimes
seen in silhouette perched on trees.
