Jackson Summit & Domino Pond


"Jackson Summit" from the north.

This 2676 foot peak has acquired the name "Jackson" in the minds of many
people, probably because of a misreading of an earlier edition of my map.
On the map, the name "Jackson" was placed next to the dot indicating the peak,
but referred to the adjacent Jackson Trail, not the mountain.

I refer to it as "Jackson Summit" only for the reason that the designation "peak" is
rather overused in the park.

Domino Pond in Jackson Canyon from Coit Road on Mahoney Ridge.  The pond is one of the dozens created for watering cattle when the lands which now make up the park were ranches.  This one usually goes dry in summer, but is a great place to hear choruses of treefrogs on spring  evenings.
