Juvenile leaving nest on its first flight.

The nest was on top of a metal post of the ramada at the
Coyote Creek entrance.  During this time period, I was working
weekends as a Park Aid collecting fees and providing
information at this location; so I was able to witness the
parents flying into the nest with food and out with fecal sacs.
On this particular day, Park Volunteer Stefan Ignaczak and I
watched at least eight juveniles leaving the nest on their first
flight.  After this flight, the birds do not return to the nest again.

Juvenile standing on park information binder at Coyote Creek ramada.

June 11, 1995.

The first flight of the juvenile wrens is rather awkward, and they often first land on
the ground a couple of dozen feet from the nest, rather than in a bush or tree
where they are more at home as adults.

This one seems not quite sure what to do next.
