Astragalus gambelianus. {++} GAMBELL'S DWARF LOCOWEED. Annual. Bl Mar-May. Grassy hillsides, open areas in chaparral or along trails. Uncommon. Pine Ridge (Corral Tr, China Hole Trail), Middle Ridge, Little Fk crossing on rd to Frog Lake, Rock House Ridge, Willow Ridge, Bear Mtn, Paradise Flat area, Hartman Ck, Orestimba Corral, Long Ridge.


Cercis occidentalis. {++} WESTERN REDBUD. CALIFORNIA REDBUD. Shrub or small tree. Deciduous. Bl "Feb-Apr". Dry slopes and canyons. Known only from near Robinson Falls, where it is fairly common, especially downstream. This is an extension of the range reported in Munz, who gives Solano Co. as the most southern Coast Range distribution.  Perhaps they were brought to the area by the Yokuts people centuries ago, or they could be a remnant of a wider past distribution in times of a cooler climate.


Glycyrrhiza lepidota {++} WILD LICORICE. AMERICAN LICORICE. Perennial. Bl late Apr-Jul. Fairly common along creeks, especially on the western side of the park.


Hoita macrostachya {++} (=Psoralea macrostachya). LEATHER ROOT. CALIFORNIA-HEMP. Perennial. Bl late Jun-early Sep. Along streams & springs. Fairly common throughout.


Hoita orbicularis {++} (=Psoralea orbicularis). ROUND-LEAVED PSORALEA. Perennial. Bl Jun-Jul. Moist places. Uncommon. Middle Fk Coyote Ck upstream of Upper Camp, China Hole, the Narrows, Kelly Cabin Cyn, base of Pacheco Falls.


Lathyrus jepsonii var. californicus {++} (=Lathyrus watsonii). BUFF PEA. Perennial. Bl "Apr-Jun". Along watercourses. N Fk Pacheco Ck near park boundary N of Dowdy Ranch.


*Lathyrus latifolius. {++} PERENNIAL SWEET PEA. EVERLASTING PEA. Perennial. Bl Jul-Aug. On edge of bank of Soda Spr Ck, at Madrone Soda Springs hotel site. Native of Europe.


Lathyrus vestitus. {++} PACIFIC PEA. HILLSIDE PEA. Perennial. Bl Mar-Jun. Common in brushy and wooded places throughout.


*Lotus corniculatus. {++} BIRD'S FOOT TREFOIL. Perennial. Bl Jul-Sep. Roadsides. By roadside spring S end of Kaiser-Aetna Road. Native of Europe.


Lotus crassifolius. {?} BROAD-LEAVED LOTUS. BUCK LOTUS. Perennial. Bl ca May-Jun. Side-ridge W of Red Ck at 1950 feet. Keys closest to this sp, but doesn't quite match.


Lotus humistratus. {+} HILL LOTUS. SHORT-PODDED TREFOIL. COLCHITA. Annual. Bl "Mar-Jun". Dry grassy slopes. Pine Ridge (Corral & Live Oak trails), Thomas Addition, S Fk Orestimba Ck; probably widespread.

Lotus micranthus. {+} HILL LOTUS. SMALL-FLOWERED LOTUS. SMALL-FLOWERED TREFOIL. MINIATURE LOTUS. Annual. Bl Apr-May. Open places and slopes. Corral & Live Oak trails.

Lotus purshianus. {++} SPANISH-CLOVER. SPANISH LOTUS. PURSH'S TREFOIL. Annual. Bl late Apr-Oct. Common in dry fields and disturbed places throughout.


Lotus salsuginosus. {?} COASTAL TREFOIL. COASTAL HOSACKIA. Annual. Bl "Mar-Jun". Dry slopes and fields. Reported from within original park boundaries (Coyote Ck watershed).


Lotus scoparius. {++} DEERWEED. Perennial with woody base. Deciduous. Bl Apr-Sep. Common on dry slopes throughout.


Lotus strigosus. {?} STRIGOSE LOTUS. Annual. Bl Mar-Apr. Dry disturbed places. Summit of Bear Mtn.


Lotus wrangelianus {++} (=Lotus subpinnatus). CHILE TREFOIL. CHILE HOSACKIA. CALIFORNIA LOTUS. HILL LOTUS. Annual. Bl Mar-May. Dry grassy slopes and flats. E Fk Coyote Ck, Kelly Lake, Orestimba Corral, Kaiser-Aetna Rd in vicinity of jct rd to Burra Burra Pk.


Lupinus albifrons. {++} SILVER LUPINE. WHITE-FOLIAGED LUPINE. Shrub or subshrub. Bl Feb-May. Fairly common on rocky slopes and hills through much of the park, e.g. Middle Ridge, the Short Cut, Willow Ridge Tr, Rooster Comb. Specimens on the W side of the park tend to be low-growing, while those on the E side are more often definitely shrubby. Some or all of Coe plants key to the var. collinus as described in Munz.  


Lupinus bicolor. {++} LINDLEY'S ANNUAL LUPINE. MINIATURE LUPINE. BLUE-AND-WHITE LUPINE. Annual. Bl Mar-Aug (mostly late Mar-May). Common in sandy or grassy places throughout, probably the most abundant lupine in the park.  Some individuals may key more or less to L. nanus in Hickman which would key clearly to L. bicolor in Munz.


Lupinus latifolius. {++} BROAD-LEAVED LUPINE. Perennial. Bl Apr-Jun. Open woods and thickets. Uncommon. Soda Springs Cyn, Hobbs Rd between Monument & Little Fk Coyote Ck, Blue Ridge (top of ridge S of Mt Sizer, Black Oak Spring Camp).


Lupinus microcarpus var. microcarpus {++} (=Lupinus ruber. Lupinus subvexus). CHICK LUPINE. Annual. Bl Mar-Jul. Common in dry open places throughout, particularly in sunny canyon bottoms on rocky slopes.


Lupinus microcarpus var. densiflorus {++} (=Lupinus densiflorus). DENSE-FLOWERED LUPINE. GULLY LUPINE. Annual. Bl Apr-Jul. Sandy flats and grassy hillsides. Common. Soda Springs Cyn, Pine Ridge (Corral Tr, Fish Tr), Little Fk Coyote Ck, Middle Ridge (rd past Frog Lake), Thomas Addition near Middle Fk Coyote Ck, Grizzly Ck, E Fk Coyote Creek, Little Long Cyn, Coyote Creek Road, Red Ck, Pinto Ck, Robinson Ck.


Lupinus succulentus. {++} SUCCULENT ANNUAL LUPINE. ARROYO LUPINE. Annual. Bl mid Mar-early July. Grassy slopes and flats. Fairly common. Soda Springs Cyn, Pine Ridge (Corral Tr), Coyote Ck (China Hole, Coyote Creek Rd), the Narrows, rd to Mustang Pk ca 1 mi S of Orestimba Corral, N Fk Pacheco Ck, Kaiser-Aetna Rd from Burra Burra Pk rd jct N, Coon Ck watershed.


*Medicago lupulina. {++} BLACK MEDICK. NONESUCH. Annual or sometimes perennial. Bl May-Aug. Disturbed areas, as near creeks. Fairly common in W side of park as along Coyote Ck, Middle Fk Coyote Ck, E Fk Coyote Ck (the Narrows & upstream); Wasno Pond. Native of Eurasia.


*Medicago polymorpha. {++} BUR-CLOVER. TOOTHED MEDICK. Annual. Bl Mar-Aug. Common in grassy places throughout. Native of Mediterranean region.


*Melilotus indicus. {++} INDIAN MELILOT. SOUR-CLOVER. INDIAN-CLOVER. SMALL MELILOT. YELLOW SWEET-CLOVER. Annual or biennial. Bl Mar-Sep. Roadsides and disturbed areas; especially common along streams throughout. Native of Eurasia. [Melilotus alba, a taller, white-flowered relative, occurs along Dunne Ave where it parallels the shores of Lake Anderson; look for it in lower elevations of Coe Park.]


Pickeringia montana. {++} CHAPARRAL PEA. Shrub. Bl May-Jun. Known from only one locality along park boundary ¼ mi NNW of Mt Sizer at elevation 3040 feet.


*Robinia pseudo-acacia. {++} BLACK LOCUST. FALSE ACACIA. Tree. Deciduous. Bl May. Planted at Madrone Soda Springs. Native of eastern US.


Rupertia physodes {++} (=Psoralea physodes). CALIFORNIA-TEA. Perennial. Bl late Apr-early Jun. Open places in brush or woods. Fairly common. Soda Springs Cyn, Coyote Ck (China Hole, near SW park gate), Pine Ridge (Corral Tr, Forest Tr), Middle Fk Coyote Ck (near Poverty Flat), Blue Ridge N of Mt Sizer, Thomas Addition (Grizzly Ck), Water Gulch, Mahoney Ridge (China Hole Tr), Willow Ridge Tr, Hunting Hollow, Mississippi Ck.


Thermopsis macrophylla. {++} CALIFORNIA FALSE LUPINE. CALIFORNIA THERMOPSIS. Perennial. Bl Apr-Jun. Fairly common in open grassy places on the W side of the park. Pine Ridge (Hobbs Rd between Monument & Little Fk Coyote Ck, Flat Frog Tr, Forest Tr, Manzanita Pt), Middle Ridge, Blue Ridge, Mahoney Ridge (China Hole Tr, Coyote Ck Rd above and below Coit Camp, Jackson Tr), Willow Ridge.


Trifolium albopurpureum var. dichotomum {++} (=Trifolium dichotomum). BRANCHED INDIAN CLOVER. Annual. Bl Apr-May. Dry rocky or sandy fields and slopes. Rock House Ridge.


Trifolium albopurpureum var. olivaceum {++} (=Trifolium olivaceum). OLIVE CLOVER. Annual. Bl Apr-May. Open places. Upper San Antonio Valley, Red Ck (W end Mt Stakes Tr), Robinson Mtn, NE corner of park.


Trifolium bifidum. {+} PINOLE CLOVER. NOTCH-LEAVED CLOVER. Annual. Bl "Apr-Jun". Grassy places. Reported from Arnold Field on Pine Ridge.


Trifolium ciliolatum. {++} TREE CLOVER. Annual. Bl May-Jul. Open and grassy slopes. Pine Ridge (Live Oak Trail, Corral Trail, Arnold Field), Fish Tr, Red Ck just S of Hatch Spr.


Trifolium depauperatum var. truncatum. {++} (=Trifolium amplectans var. truncatum). DWARF SACK CLOVER. Annual. Bl Apr & probably longer. Grassy places. Burra Burra Pk area.


Trifolium gracilentum. {+} PIN-POINT CLOVER. Annual. Bl "Apr-Jun". Open and grassy places. Reported from Arnold Field.


*Trifolium hirtum. {++} ROSE CLOVER. Annual. Bl spring. Roadsides & other disturbed areas. Coe HQ, Coit Camp, Coyote Ck gate, Grizzly Gulch. Native of Eurasia and N Africa.


Trifolium microcephalum. {++} SMALL-HEADED CLOVER. MAIDEN CLOVER. Annual. Bl May-Jun. Open grassy places. Corral Trail, Thomas Addition (Middle Fk Coyote Ck), Kelly Lake area.


Trifolium microdon. {+} VALPARAISO CLOVER. CUP CLOVER. Annual. Bl "Mar-Jun". Open valleys and slopes. Reported from Arnold Field on Pine Ridge.


Trifolium obtusiflorum. {++} CREEK CLOVER. CLAMMY CLOVER. Annual. Bl Apr-Jul. Moist places. Middle Fk Coyote Ck, Thomas Addition (Grizzly Ck), Water Gulch, E Fk Coyote Ck, Upper San Antonio Valley, S Fk Orestimba Ck near NE boundary of park.


Trifolium oliganthum. {++} FEW-FLOWERED CLOVER. Annual. Bl Mar-Apr. Open woods. Orestimba Corral area.


*Trifolium repens. {++} WHITE CLOVER. Perennial. Bl "Apr-Dec". Lawns and meadows. Coe HQ, Coyote Ck gate parking area. Native of Europe.


Trifolium variegatum. {+} WHITE-TIPPED CLOVER. Annual. Bl "Mar-Jun". Moist or grassy places.


Trifolium willdenovii {++} (=Trifolium tridentatum). TOMCAT CLOVER. Annual. Bl Mar-May. Fairly common throughout.


*Vicia sativa. {++} COMMON VETCH. SPRING VETCH. TARE. Annual. Bl Mar-May. Roadsides, woods and fields. Fairly common. Pine Ridge (Live Oak Tr, Corral Tr, Forest Tr, Springs Tr, Fish Tr, Arnold Field), Blue Ridge, the Narrows, Willow Ridge (rd between crest & Kelly Lake), Coon Ck watershed. Native of Europe.


*Vicia villosa ssp. varia {+} (=Vicia dasycarpa). WOOLLY-POD VETCH. Annual. Bl Apr-early Sep. Roadsides and other disturbed areas. Poverty Flat, Thomas Addition (Grizzly Ck), Mississippi Ridge (Co Line Rd ca 1 mi S of Board Springs), Dowdy Ranch, Kaiser-Aetna Rd. Native of the Mediterranean region, Cook Ck watershed.
