Coyotes are not infrequently seen by visitors at Coe Park. In some areas, as on Pine Ridge, some individuals are so used to us they will go about their business with little reaction to our presence.

In most other areas of the park, they run off when they see or scent us.  The history of human persecution of them is too recent for them to take a chance with trusting us.

It is a delightful experience to hear the joyful yipping and yapping of a group of coyotes in the night or early morning while you are out camping.  The sound is usually so unlike the Hollywood movie coyote howl, that many do not recognize it as originating from Coe's larger native dog.
