Agoseris heterophylla. {+} MOUNTAIN DANDELION. ANNUAL AGOSERIS. Annual. Bl "Apr-Jul". Open grassy areas and flats. Reported from S Fk Orstimba Ck.


Ancistrocarphus filagineus {+} (=Stylocline filaginea). NORTHERN STYLOCLINE. HOOKED STYLOCLINE. WOOLLY FISHHOOKS. Annual. Bl "Apr-May". Dry places. S Fk Orestimba Ck on serpentine soil.


*Anthemis cotula. {++} MAYWEED. DOG-FENNEL. STINKING CHAMOMILE. Annual. Bl May-Jun. Roadsides. Uncommon. Coe HQ area, Blue Oak Horse Camp, Blue Ridge (The Short Cut), E Fk Coyote Ck, Mahoney Ridge, Coit Camp. Native of Europe.


Arnica discoidea {++} (=Arnica discoidea var. alata). RAYLESS ARNICA. Perennial. Bl Jun-Jul. Shady woodlands. Apparently uncommon. The Narrows; N end Blue Ridge.


Artemisia californica. {++} CALIFORNIA SAGEBRUSH. OLD MAN. COAST SAGEBRUSH. Shrub. Bl Nov-Feb (probably sometimes earlier in the fall). Common on dry slopes throughout.


Artemisia douglasiana. {++} CALIFORNIA MUGWORT. DOUGLAS' MUGWORT. Perennial. Bl Jul-Sep. Common along stream banks and flats and other moist areas throughout.


Artemisia dracunculus. {++} DRAGON SAGEWORT. TARRAGON. Perennial. Bl Jul and probably longer. Dry places. Uncommon. Madrone Soda Sprs; Middle Fk Coyote Ck.


Aster chilensis. {+} COMMON CALIFORNIA ASTER. Perennial. Bl Oct-Nov. Shady woodlands. Apparently rare; noted only on Pine Ridge, E facing slope ca 0.3 mi NW of the Monument, ca 2800 feet elevation; and on bank along Little Fk of Coyote Ck near Los Huecos Ranch boundary fence, ca 2400 feet elevation. This sp is generally thought to occur below 1500 feet elevation (which would make Coe's population exceptional). This might really be Aster eatonii, but they seem to key best to Aster chilensis.


Aster radulinus. {++} BROAD-LEAF ASTER. Perennial. Bl Jul-Sep. Dry wooded slopes and hilltops. Fairly common on W side of park, but seldom seen in bloom. Soda Springs Cyn (Mile Tr), Pine Ridge (just N of Monument, Forest Tr, China Hole Tr, Cougar Tr), Coyote Ck cyn, Mahoney Meadows, the Narrows, Blue Ridge, Grizzly Gulch.


Baccharis douglasii. {++} DOUGLAS' BACCHARIS. MARSH BACCHARIS. Perennial with woody base. Bl Jul-Nov. Moist ground. Known only from Pine Ridge above the Coe HQ spring and from near a pond N of Burra Burra Pk.


Baccharis pilularis. {++} (=Baccharis pilularis var. consanguinea). CHAPARRAL-BROOM. COYOTE BRUSH. Shrub. Bl Sep-Nov (& probably longer). Common on hillsides and in canyons throughout, ± restricted to moister places on E side.


Baccharis salicifolia. {++} (=Baccharis glutinosa. Baccharis viminea). MULE FAT. SEEP-WILLOW. WATER WALLY. Shrub. Bl Apr-May (& probably longer). Common along water courses throughout.


Brickellia californica. {++} CALIFORNIA BRICKELLBUSH. CALIFORNIA BRICKELLIA. Perennial with woody base. Bl July-early Sep. Common in washes and dry slopes throughout.


Calycadenia multiglandulosa. {++} (=Calycadenia multiglandulosa ssp. robusta). STICKY CALYCADENIA. Annual. Bl Jul-Oct. Dry soils among chaparral, open savannah, grassy valleys and ridges. Rock House Ridge, N Fk Pacheco Ck cyn upstream from Pacheco Camp, Willson Pk, Steer Ridge on serpentine, S Fk Orestimba Ck.


Calycadenia truncata. {++} ROSIN WEED. Annual. Bl Jul-Dec. Fast draining slopes. Pine Ridge (Corral Tr), Middle Ridge (Fish Tr), Blue Ridge (N bdy gate, Mt. Sizer and near Jackass Pk), Coyote Ck Rd, below dam of Kelly Lake, Mississippi Ck cyn north of lake, near jct Kaiser-Aetna Rd, County Line Rd, Wasno Road, Lyman Willson Ridge Rd.


*Carduus tenuiflorus. {+} SLENDER-FLOWERED THISTLE. Annual. Bl Apr-May. Common along roads, trails, and other disturbed areas, seems to be spreading. Native of S Europe. Carduus pycnocephalus, has also been reported; these close relatives seem to intergrade and may be two forms of the same species, with Carduus tenuiflorus the more robust form.


*Centaurea calcitrapa. {+} PURPLE STAR-THISTLE. CALTROPS. Annual or biennial. Bl Jul-Sep. Disturbed areas. Uncommon. Kelly Cabin Cyn below Kelly Lake; lowest 1½ mi of Kaiser-Aetna Rd before Bell Station. Native of Eurasia.


*Centaurea melitensis. {++} TOCALOTE. NAPA THISTLE. Annual. Bl late April-Oct. Fields and roadsides. Common throughout. Native of Eurasia.


*Centaurea solstitialis. {++} BARNABY'S THISTLE. YELLOW STAR-THISTLE. Annual. Bl Jul-Oct. Grassy areas, roadsides and disturbed areas. Common in many areas of the park, but not as abundant as Centaurea melitensis, except perhaps in the Hunting Hollow area. Native of Europe.


Chaenactis glabriuscula var. glabriuscula. {++} COMMON YELLOW CHAENACTIS. PEBBLE PINCUSHION. Annual. Bl May-Jun (& probably earlier). Sandy valleys and hills. E Fk Coyote Ck, S Fk Orestimba Ck, Coon Ck area.


Chaenactis glabriuscula var. heterocarpha {++} (=Chaenactis tanacetifolia, Chaenactis glabriuscula var. gracilenta). INNER COAST RANGE CHAENACTIS. Annual. Bl Apr-May. Gravelly places or serpentine soil. S Fk Orestimba Ck in serpentine areas (N of Orestimba Corral & in another location near NE park boundary).


*? Chamomilla suaveolens {++} (=Matricaria matricarioides). PINEAPPLE WEED. Annual. Bl Apr-early June. Fields, roadsides and other disturbed areas. Fairly common throughout park. A weed throughout N Am and Europe of uncertain origin; although it was first described from North America, some botanists suspect it originated from NE Asia.


*Cichorium intybus. {++} CHICORY. Perennial. Bl Jul-Aug and probably longer. Known only from along Kaiser-Aetna Rd, next to roadside spring near Bell Station, and at the mouth of Hunting Hollow.  Native of Europe.


Cirsium cymosum. {?} PEREGRINE THISTLE. Perennial. Bl May-Jun. Dry slopes. Possibly this sp in Frog Lake area, on Blue Ridge (top of the Short Cut), on ridge to W of Upper San Antonio Valley, and hill above Red Ck ca 1½ miles NE of Bear Mtn.


Cirsium occidentale var. venustum {++} (=Cirsium proteanum). RED THISTLE. VENUS THISTLE. Perennial. Bl Apr-Sep. Dry slopes. Common throughout.


*Cirsium vulgare. {++} BULL THISTLE. SPEAR THISTLE. Biennial. Bl Jun-Dec. Streamsides and other moist areas. Fairly common throughout. Native of Europe.


*Conyza bonariensis. {?} FLAX-LEAVED FLEABANE. Annual. Bl Sep and certainly longer. Disturbed areas. China Hole Tr in burn area. This might be C. canadensis, but seemed too fuzzy.


Conyza canadensis. {++} HORSEWEED. CANADA FLEABANE. Annual. Bl Jun-Oct. Disturbed areas, particularly in moist places, e.g. the Narrows, Red Ck,  Kelly Lake, Hunting Hollow.


*Crepis capillaris. {++} SMOOTH HAWKSBEARD. Annual or biennial. Bl Jun-Aug. Open fields. Corral Tr, Springs Tr, Middle Ridge (Hobbs Tr), Madrone Soda Springs Tr, Kaiser-Aetna Rd by roadside spring near Bell Station. Native of Europe.


*Erechtites glomerata {++} (=Erechtites arguta). CUT-LEAVED COAST FIREWEED. Annual or short-lived perennial. Bl Aug (& probably earlier). Only one seen in shady area along Mississippi Lake. Native of Australasia.


Ericameria arborescens {++} (=Haplopappus arborescens). GOLDEN FLEECE. Shrub. Bl Jul-Sep. Dry hills. Uncommon; Blue Ridge (N of the Short Cut), N end of Willow Ridge, Pacheco Ridge, E of Mississippi Lake.


Ericameria linearifolia {++} (=Haplopappus linearifolius). STENOTOPSIS. NARROWLEAF GOLDENBUSH. INTERIOR GOLDENBUSH. Shrub. Bl Mar-early May. Dry areas on rocky or sandy soils. Common through E b of park. Blue Ridge, Bollinger Ridge, Divide Ridge, E Fk Coyote Ck, s end Mahoney Ridge, Willow Ridge, Pacheco Ridge, Mississippi Ck, Bear Mtn, Mississippi Ridge, Upper San Antonio Valley, Red Ck, Robinson Mtn, S Fk Orestimba, Long Ridge, Mustang Pk, Burra Burra Pk.


Erigeron foliosus. {++} LEAFY DAISY. Perennial. Bl May-Sep. Fairly common on shady grassy or wooded slopes. Pine Ridge (Forest Tr, Live Oak Tr), Middle Ridge, Grizzly Ck (Thomas Addition), Rock House Ridge, Mississippi Ridge, Robinson Ck, Burra Burra Pk.


Erigeron petrophilus. {++} ROCK DAISY. Perennial. Bl late May-Nov. Rock outcrops. Uncommon. Middle Fk Coyote Ck ½ mile or more upstream from Mexican Flat; E Fk Coyote Ck (the Narrows); Red Ck (roadless section ca 1 mile S of Hatch Spring).


Erigeron philadelphicus. {++} PHILADELPHIA FLEABANE. SKEVISH. PHILADELPHIA DAISY. COMMON FLEABANE. DAISY FLEABANE. Biennial or short-lived perennial. Bl Apr-Jul. Moist, usually shady places, particularly along streamsides. Fairly common along or near Coyote Ck and its branches (Soda Springs Cyn, Middle Fk, E Fk).


Eriophyllum confertiflorum. {++} GOLDEN-YARROW. YELLOW-YARROW. Shrub or subshrub. Bl late Mar-Jul. Common on brushy slopes throughout.


Eriophyllum jepsonii. {++} JEPSON'S WOOLLY SUNFLOWER. Perennial subshrub. Bl "Apr-Jun". Above Pinto Ck in chaparral about 2 miles from Mt Stakes.


Euthamia occidentalis {++} (=Solidago occidentalis). WESTERN GOLDENROD. Perennial. Bl late Jun-Oct. Banks of creeks or by springs. Fairly common throughout. Coyote Ck & its branches (Little Fk, Middle Fk, E Fk as in the Narrows), Grizzly Ck, Upper San Antonio Valley, Pinto Ck, Robinson Ck, Lion Cyn, S Fk Orestimba Ck, by Spring along the Bowl Tr.


*Filago gallica. {+} NARROW-LEAVED FILAGO. FLUFFWEED. Annual. Bl "Apr-Jun" (difficult to see whether blooming). Grassy or disturbed areas. Common on W side, fairly common elsewhere. Native of Europe.


Gnaphalium bicolor. {+}  TWOCOLOR CUDWEED.  TWO-TONED EVERLASTING.  Perennial.  Dry slopes.  Known only from rock outcrop in Cañada de la Dormida.


Gnaphalium californicum. {++} CALIFORNIA EVERLASTING. GREEN EVERLASTING. CALIFORNIA CUDWEED. "PEARLY EVERLASTING". Biennial. Bl Jan-Aug. Common on dry wooded hills, edges of chaparral, burned and other disturbed places, etc. Often mistaken for true Pearly Everlasting, (Anaphalis margaritacea), which does not occur in the park.


*Gnaphalium luteo-album. {+} WEEDY CUDWEED. Annual. Bl Mar-Sep. Usually moist areas as along ponds and streams. Bass Pond, Coyote Ck, E Fk Coyote Ck, Little Long Cyn, Mississippi Lake, Red Ck, pond near Robinson Mtn, Jackrabbit Lake, N Fk Pacheco Ck, Dowdy Ranch, and north of Center Flats. Native of Eurasia.


Gnaphalium palustre. {++} LOWLAND CUDWEED. Annual. Bl May-Sep. Moist areas. Noted only along Middle Fk Coyote Ck (Thomas Addition) and at Raven Pond (Coon Ck watershed).


Grindelia camporum. {++} GREAT VALLEY GRINDELIA. GREAT VALLEY GUMPLANT. Perennial. Bl May-Sep. Dry streambanks, sunny hillsides. Fairly common, e.g. Coyote Ck rd, Mahoney Ridge, Blue Ridge, Divide Ridge, ½ mile up rd to Bear Mtn from E Fk Coyote Ck, Coit Lake, Pacheco Ridge, north of Center Flats, Red Ck, Kaiser-Aetna Rd.


Grindelia hirsutula. {++} HAIRY GUMWEED.  Perennial.  Bl Apr-May, possibly longer.  Slopes or roadsides.  At junction Wagon and Center Flats roads.


Gutierrezia californica {++} (=Gutierrezia bracteata). SAN JOAQUIN MATCHWEED. Subshrub. Bl Aug-Sep (& probably longer). Rock outcrops and dry flats. Fairly common along parts of NE corner of park along S Fk Orestimba Ck. [Also seen outside park on steep banks along Dunne Avenue between Cochrane Bridge and Woodchopper Picnic Area.]


Helenium puberulum. {++} ROSILLA. Biennial or short-lived perennial. Bl Jun-Nov (mostly Jul-Aug). Moist areas by lakes, streams, and springs, where fairly common, e.g. Coyote Ck and its branches (Soda Springs Cyn, Middle Fk, E Fk), Hoover Lake (below dam), Coit Lake, Caviata Spring, Red Ck, Robinson Ck, Paradise Lake, S Fk Orestimba near NE park bdy, the Bowl Tr.


Helianthella californica. {+} CALIFORNIA HELIANTHELLA. Perennial. Bl Apr-Jun. Shady wooded slopes. Uncommon. Pine Ridge (Flat Frog Tr, Forest Tr, Cougar Tr), Blue Ridge, N end Mahoney Ridge (China Hole Tr), Kelly Cabin Cyn (Cross Cyn Tr West), Pacheco Ridge, Mississippi Ck.


Helianthus californicus. {++} CALIFORNIA SUNFLOWER. Perennial. Bl late Jun-Oct. Fairly common along streams throughout. Coyote Ck & its tributaries (Little Fk, Middle Fk incl Poverty Flat, Kelly Cabin Cyn, E Fk), Red Ck, Pinto Ck, Robinson Ck, N Fk Pacheco Ck, Canada de la Dormida.


Hemizonia congesta ssp. luzulifolia {++} (=Hemizonia luzulaefolia ssp. rudis). HAYFIELD TARWEED. Annual. Bl late Jul-Dec. Common in sunny fields and roadsides through much of park, e.g. Miller Field, Los Cruzeros, Mahoney Meadows, Coit Camp, Mississippi Ck N of the lake, Kaiser-Aetna Rd, Dowdy Ranch, Grizzly Gulch, Long Dam Pond, Phegley Ridge, south end of Hunting Hollow.


Hemizonia fitchii. {+} FITCH'S SPIKEWEED. Annual. Bl Jul-Aug (& probably longer). Dry hills and plains. Known from Upper San Antonio Valley, where common, and possibly from Mississippi Ck (ca 1½ mile S of the dam, where this or a closely related "spikeweed" occurs);  also along Grizzly Gulch Tr west of jct Dexter Tr.


Hemizonia kelloggii. {++} KELLOGG'S TARWEED. Annual. Bl Apr-Jul. Dry flats and hillsides. Upper San Antonio Valley and Red Ck.


Hesperevax acaulis {+} (=Evax acaulis). DWARF EVAX. Annual. Bl "Mar-May". Open places. S Fk Orestimba Ck in NE corner of park; also in Thomas Addition.


Hesperevax sparsiflora var. sparsiflora {++} (=Evax sparsiflora). Annual. Open areas. Noted only along Hobbs Rd NNW of Frog Lake, but probably much more widespread.


Heterotheca oregona var. scaberrima {++} (=Chrysopsis oregona var. scaberrima). OREGON GOLDEN-ASTER. Perennial. Bl late Jun-Oct. Sandy or gravelly places in creekbeds. Coyote Ck Rd at Grizzly Gulch crossing, Kelly Cabin Cyn, E Fk Coyote Ck (the Narrows, Los Cruzeros, near Schafer Corral, S of Little Long Cyn), Red Ck, S Fk Orestimba Ck, Hunting Hollow.


Heterotheca sessiliflora ssp. echioides {++} (=Chrysopsis villosa var. camphorata). HAIRY GOLDEN-ASTER. Perennial. Bl Jul-Nov (& probably earlier). Open rocky or gravelly areas on hillsides or ridgetops. Pine Ridge (near the Monument), Middle Ridge, Blue Ridge (The Short Cut), Hunting Hollow.


Holocarpha heermannii. {++} HEERMANN'S TARWEED. Annual. Bl Jun-Oct. Sunny areas in hard soils of fields and roadsides. Widespread, locally abundant. Mississippi Lake, Board Spring area, W end Rooster Comb Loop, Paradise Lake, S Fk Orestimba Ck, Kaiser-Aetna Rd, County Line Rd SW of Mustang Pk.


Holocarpha virgata. {++} VIRGATE TARWEED. STICKY TARWEED. Annual. Bl Jul-Dec. Sunny, hard-baked soils of fields and roadsides. Common (abundant in places) W of Mississippi and Pacheco ridges. It appears the ranges of this sp and Holocarpha heermannii overlap only in the Mississippi Ck area, and that the latter dominates the E side of the park, south to Hunting Hollow.


Holozonia filipes. {++} HOLOZONIA. Perennial. Bl late Jun-Nov. Dry gulches and among rocks in beds of intermittent streams, shoreline of reservoirs. Common throughout. Coyote Ck and its branches (including Hunting Hollow), Kelly Lake, Hoover Lake, Coit Lake, N Fk Pacheco Ck, Mississippi Ck, Red Ck, Robinson Ck, Paradise Lake, S Fk Orestimba Ck.


*Hypochaeris glabra. {+} SMOOTH CAT'S EAR. Annual. Bl Mar-Jun. Roadsides, fields, etc. Common throughout. Native of Europe. Some manuals describe this plant as glabrous (hairless), but all specimens I remember seeing (here or in other areas) always had a few hairs on the leaves.

*Lactuca serriola. {++} PRICKLY LETTUCE. WILD LETTUCE. Annual. Bl Jul-Sep. Fields and disturbed areas. Fairly common throughout. Native of Eurasia.


Lagophylla ramosissima. {++} COMMON HARELEAF. Annual. Bl May-Sep. Dry places, fairly common throughout e.g. Thomas Addition, E Fk Coyote Ck, Mahoney Pond, near Grapevine Spring, Kelly Lake, Hoover Lake airstrip, Coit Lake, Mississippi Lake, near Pacheco Camp, Red Ck, Dowdy Ranch, Canada de la Dormida, Hunting Hollow.


Lasthenia californica {++} (=Lasthenia chrysostoma. Baeria chrysostoma). GOLDFIELDS. SUNSHINE. Annual. Bl Feb-May (mostly Mar-Apr). Open sunny flats and slopes. Locally abundant through much of the park.


Lasthenia glabrata. {+} YELLOW-RAYED LASTHENIA. SMOOTH LASTHENIA. Annual. Bl "Mar-May". Serpentine soil, S Fk Orestimba Ck.


Layia gaillardioides. {++} WOODLAND LAYIA. Annual. Bl Apr and probably longer. Grassy places. E Fk Coyote Ck at base of Bear Mtn Rd; Coon Ck watershed.


Layia platyglossa. {+} TIDY TIPS. Annual. Bl Mar-May. Sunny slopes and flats. Upper San Antonio Valley; S Fk Orestimba Ck in valley north of jct rd to Paradise Flat.     


Lessingia filaginifolia {++} (=Corethrogyne filaginifolia). CUDWEED-ASTER. CALIFORNIA-ASTER. Perennial with woody base. Bl Jul-Dec. Dry open slopes, open woodlands. Common throughout.


Lessingia micradenia var. glabrata {?} (=Lessingia ramulosa var. glabrata). SMOOTH LESSINGIA. Annual. On slopes next to Paradise Lake. This identiWcation is my best guess based on general appearance and range. The plants I saw were just beginning to bloom when seen in early July 1987 and July 1992.


Lessingia tenuis {++} (=Lessingia germanorum var. parvula). SPRING LESSINGIA. Annual. Bl late Apr-Jul. Openings on hills. Thomas Addition on rd from Divide Ridge to Grizzly Ck at ca 2000 ft; on ridge S of Upper San Antonio Valley, W end Mt Stakes Tr at ca 2100 ft; old rd to Grass Peak at ca 1980 ft; far NE corner of park on serpentine slope above S Fk Orestimba Ck.

Madia elegans. {+} COMMON MADIA. Annual. Slopes near creekbeds. Bl late May-Nov. Grizzly Ck (Thomas Addition), E Fk Coyote Ck, Little Long Cyn, Kelly Cabin Cyn, Red Ck, Pinto Ck, S Fk Orestimba Ck near mouth of Robinson Ck. The herbage of Coe specimens has a lemon-like scent, a characteristic supposed to be unique to Madia citriodora, which Coe plants do not otherwise resemble.


Madia exigua. {++} THREADSTEM MADIA. PYGMY MADIA. Annual. Bl "May-Jul". Above Pinto Ck in chaparral. Probably more common, but plants inconspicuous.


Madia gracilis. {++} GUMWEED. SLENDER TARWEED. Annual. Bl Apr-May. Wooded hillsides and in open places. Probably common throughout park.


Madia sativa. {?} COAST TARWEED. Annual. Bl summer. Possibly this species in Hunting Hollow and in Braen Canyon.


Malacothrix floccifera. {++} WOOLLY MALACOTHRIX. Annual. Bl Apr-May. Serpentine soil. Far NE corner of park on slope above S Fk Orestimba Ck; above S Fk north of Orestimba Corral.


Micropus californicus. {+} SLENDER COTTONWEED. Annual. Bl Apr and probably longer (it's difficult to tell at a glance when these inconspicuous plants are blooming). Common in low, dry open places throughout.


Microseris douglasii. {++} DOUGLAS' MICROSERIS. Annual. Bl "Mar-Apr". Grassy places. Rock House Ridge; hillside S of Burra Burra Pk; probably much more widespread.


Microseris elegans. {++} ELEGANT MICROSERIS. Annual. Bl "Apr-May". Grassy hills. Near Mahoney Pond.

Senecio aronicoides. {++}. Biennial or perennial. Bl June and probably longer. One plant seen along Little Fk near park boundary, probably also along Flat Frog Tr to west. Open woods in or at the edge of thickets.


Senecio breweri. {++} BREWER'S BUTTERWEED. Biennial or short-lived perennial. Bl Apr-May. Open woods. Fairly common. Little Fk Coyote Ck, Los Cruzeros area, Mississippi Ridge, Red Ck, Robinson Ck, Orestimba Corral, S Fk Orestimba Ck near park boundary, Hartman Ck, Kaiser-Aetna Rd, Coon Ck area.


Senecio flaccidus var. douglasii {++} (=Senecio douglasii). CREEK SENECIO. SHRUBBY BUTTERWEED. Shrub. Bl late Apr-Nov. Dry slopes, washes and dry streambeds. Fairly common to uncommon. Divide Ridge, Poverty Flat, Bear Mtn area, Kelly Lake, S end of Hoover Lake air strip, Mississippi Lake, County Line Rd, Mt Stakes Tr, Robinson Mtn, Jackrabbit Lake.

*Silybum marianum. {++} MILK THISTLE. HOLY THISTLE. Annual or biennial. Bl May-Jul. Fields, roadsides and disturbed areas. Fairly common, e.g. Live Oak Tr, Corral Tr, Poverty Flat, Kaiser-Aetna Rd.along Gilroy Hot Springs Road near mouth of Hunting Hollow.  Native of the Mediterranean region.


Solidago californica. {+} CALIFORNIA GOLDENROD. COMMON GOLDENROD. Perennial. Bl Jul-Oct. Seasonally moist areas in woodlands & along streams. Fairly common. Forest Tr, Coyote Ck & its branches, Little Long Cyn, near Canteen Spring, Bear Spring, Upper San Antonio Valley.

*Sonchus oleraceus. {++} COMMON SOW-THISTLE. Annual. Bl Mar-Sep. Disturbed areas. Fairly common throughout, though seems less frequent than Sonchus asper. Native of Europe.


Stebbinsoseris heterocarpa {++} (=Microseris heterocarpa). DERIVED MICROSERIS. Annual. Derived from hybridization from Microseris douglasii X Uropappus lindleyi. Bl Apr & probably longer. Grassy places. East of Burra Burra Pk.


Stephanomeria virgata. {+} TALL STEPHANOMERIA. VIRGATE STEPHANOMERIA. TWIGGY WREATH PLANT. Annual. Bl late Jun-Dec. Roadsides, loose soils of dry hills and valleys. Fairly common throughout.


*Taraxacum officinale. {++} COMMON DANDELION. Biennial or perennial. Bl Mar-Aug. Fairly common in damp or wet places, e.g. Middle Fk Coyote Ck, China Hole, E Fk Coyote Ck, Coon Hunter's Gulch, Mississippi Lake, Red Ck, Robinson Ck, Dowdy Ranch. Native of Eurasia.


*Tragopogon dubius. {+} YELLOW SALSIFY. Biennial or perennial. Bl "May-Sep". Roadsides and other disturbed areas. Pine Ridge. Native of Europe.

Uropappus lindleyi {++} (=Microseris linearifolia. Microseris lindleyi). UROPAPPUS. SILVER PUFFS. NARROW-LEAVED MICROSERIS. Annual. Bl Apr-May. Grassy places, open woods, etc. Common. Pine Ridge, Middle Ridge, Blue Ridge, Divide Ridge, Rock House Ridge, Little Long Cyn, Mahoney Ridge, Willow Ridge, Mississippi Ridge, Red Ck, Robinson Mtn, Rooster Comb area, S Fk Orestimba Ck.


Wyethia helenioides. {?} MULE EARS. Perennial. Bl Apr-May. Fairly common on shady, brushy or wooded slopes through much of the park. Soda Springs Cyn, Pine Ridge, Middle Ridge, Poverty Flat, Bollinger Ridge, Divide Ridge, E Fk Coyote Ck, Little Long Cyn, Water Gulch, Mahoney Ridge, Upper San Antonio Valley, Mississippi Ck, along Wagon Rd south of Willson Field Hill, Dowdy Ranch area, Coon Ck watershed, Grizzly Gulch.  The plants I've keyed seem closest to Wyethia helenioides, though the leaves are not densely tomentose. The closely related Wyethia glabra has also been reported, but I doubt that both are present.


*? Xanthium spinosum. {++} SPINY CLOTBUR. Annual. Bl Jul-Aug and probably longer. Roadsides and disturbed areas. Common at Dowdy Ranch and along nearby sections of Kaiser-Aetna Rd. The origin of this cosmopolitan weed is uncertain: some forms may be native.

*? Xanthium strumarium. {++} COCKLEBUR. Annual. Bl "Jul-Oct". Moist areas. Kelly Lake, Red Ck, Pond near Snod Pk, S Fk Orestimba Ck near NE corner of park, Raven Pond, roadside spring near Bell Station, Hunting Hollow. Weed found throughout the world, some forms possibly native to the area.
