Buds of inflorescence.

The structure of the inflorescence forms remarkably early, in early summer or late spring,
and remain in an immature stage until after the winter rains began.  The image shows
swelling buds which will probably form flowers in late December or in January.

Trunk of large specimen with thin exfoliating bark.
Most of the year the trunk is extremely smooth.
